In our reading class we read a story titled, Volcanoes by Seymour Simon. We learned about five different types of volcanoes and they are Cinder cone, Shield, Dome, Strato, and Composite.
We Skyped with the Kinder students of Arbolita Elementary School and showed them how to erupt a volcano. Next, we skyped on our ipad and we showed them how to erupt a volcano. We told them the steps... 1. Pass out the supplies 2. Pour a half a cup (1/2) hot water into the bowl 3. Scoop 1 teaspoon of baking soda 4. Pour 1 teaspoon of soap 5. Drop in 4 drops of red food coloring 6. Stir it 7. Pour in a half a cup of vinegar 8. Watch the volcanic eruption and have fun.
We read a story La Bamba by Gary Soto, a boy named Manuel volunteered to be in the schools talent show.Manuel is going to pantomime La Bamba by Ritchie Valens. When we read the story La Bamba, we decided to do a talent show of our own class. We showed off our best talents to our classmates. We had a great time showing our talent off.
The kindergardners at Arbolita were working on the letter V and they wanted to do something special for us. In return for showing them how a volcano erupts on Skype, they made us some volcano headbands. We enjoyed wearing the headbands all day.
In our reading class, we created a volcano out of butcher paper and labeled it.The colors that we used for the volcano were dark brown for the crust, orange for the magma, red for the lava, green for the vegetation, black for the cinders, and light brown for the chamber.
